چکیده

Workflow scheduling on utility Grids is a complex multi-objective optimization problem which tries to optimize several scheduling criteria such as execution time and cost. One common approach to the problem is to optimize only one criterion, while other criteria are constrained within fixed thresholds. In this paper, we propose a new scheduling algorithm called Budget Partial Critical Path (Budget-PCP) which aims to create a schedule that minimizes the total execution time of a workflow, such that the total execution cost does not exceed the user specified budget. The Budget-PCP algorithm has two phases: in the budget distribution phase, it recursively assigns sub-budgets to the tasks on the partial critical paths ending at previously assigned tasks, and in the planning phase it assigns the fastest service to each task while meeting its sub-budget. The simulation results show that the performance of our algorithm is very promising.

Deadline-constrained workflow scheduling algorithms for Infrastructure as a Service Clouds

The advent of Cloud computing as a newmodel of service provisioning in distributed systems encourages researchers to investigate its benefits and drawbacks on executing scientific applications such as workflows. One of the most challenging problems in Clouds is workflow scheduling, i.e., the problem of satisfying the QoS requirements of the user as well as minimizing the cost of workflow execut...

Constrained Renewable Resource Allocation in Fuzzy Metagraphs via Min-Slack

This paper discusses that the fuzzy metagraphs can be used as a tool for scheduling and control of fuzzy projects. Often, available resources for executing projects may be limited. It is assumed the resources required to accomplish each activity of project (metagraph edges) is renewable. One of the common methods for scheduling projects is using the min-slack. So, first, the forward and bac...

Distributed Workflow Scheduling Under Throughput and Budget Constraints in Grid Environments

Grids enable sharing, selection and aggregation of geographically distributed resources among various organizations. They are emerging as promising computing paradigms for resource and computeintensive scientific workflow applications modeled as Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) with intricate inter-task dependencies. With the growing popularity of real-time applications, streaming workflows continu...

Deadline/budget-based Scheduling of Workflows on Utility Grids

Grid technologies provide the basis for creating a service-oriented paradigm that enables a new way of service provisioning based on utility computing models. For typical utility computing-based services, users are charged for consuming services on the basis of their usage and QoS level required. Therefore, while scheduling workflows on utility Grids, service price must be considered while opti...
